As the women of DPhiE at Drexel we are dedicated to empowering women, as we grow together we take pride in the strengths and characteristics that each sister contributes, and as a sisterhood we strive to encourage each other to meet and exceed the excellence that every sister possesses.

Since 1917, Delta Phi Epsilon has grown and flourished through much change in the world around us. What has been the key to our success? It is the simple, lasting bond we share as sisters beginning with five insightful women at New York University School of Law.On March 17, 1917, five women at New York University School of Law took a pledge of sisterhood and loyalty and so founded the Alpha Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon, with a commitment to being a nonsectarian organization and the only sorority founded at a professional school. These five young aspiring lawyers saw Delta Phi Epsilon as a society to promote "good fellowship among sorority women students throughout the various colleges of this country...to create a secret society composed of these women based upon their good moral character, regardless of nationality or creed..." with the motto Esse Quam Videri: to be rather than to seem to be.Five years later, on March 19, 1922, Delta Phi Epsilon was formally incorporated under the laws of the State of New York. The International Executive Council was established as a governing body, the national magazine was published, and on December 5, 1922, stretching beyond international boundaries, the first Canadian chapter was installed at McGill University (Epsilon Chapter) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The following year, the first International Convention was held in New York City. Delta Phi Epsilon has worked to develop a social conscience and a willingness to think in terms of the common good to assure for its members continuous development and achievement. With a continuing philosophy of faith in the inherent good judgment of our membership, Delta Phi Epsilon has remained steadfast throughout its history, developing the precept in our alumnae leaders and looking forward to the continuing growth of a sisterhood which keeps pace with the ever changing world.

Local History

Delta Epsilon Chapter Mission Statement:As determined intelligent women, we the Delta Epsilon founders, break the stereotypes of what it is to be a sorority. Through service, passion, and motivation we effectively empower women to strengthen their roles in society. Setting a solid foundation as a sisterhood, we embrace the individuality and integrity of young women who will become the leaders of future generations.The Founding of Our Chapter:In January of 2003, the International Headquarters of Delta Phi Epsilon came to Drexel University to invite non-Greek women on campus to take advantage of a new sorority experience. On January 26, 2003, 32 bids were extended to the women who would become the initial founders of the Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Epsilon Chapter at Drexel University. This was the beginning of our journey into sisterhood. Throughout the winter term we worked to learn about each other and to create a sisterhood by building on the strengths and working through challenges. We learned to implement programs, like Team Excellence and the PEARL Program, to enrich our lives and our bonds. During this time, we also opened the doors of Delta Phi Epsilon to 14 additional members. We began our term as a colony when the International President, Dawn McNulty, Executive Director, Ellen Alper, and our Chapter Advisors pinned the members of our sisterhood, on March 8, 2003. Our women all exhibited the qualities of Dedication, Pride, and Excellence and we were excited to officially form the Delta Epsilon Colony of Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority. On March 16, 2003, the day before our celebrated Founders Day, we elected our first officers to their positions. In the spring months, we participated in our first Greek Week events with the Panhellenic, IFC, and BIG-C fraternities and sororities of Drexel University. We also rallied behind the Greek organizations at the All Greek Reception held by the Office of Campus Activities, where the annual Deans Cup award was presented. We were proud to announce our President, (Lis Rockey), was named Panhellenic New Member of the Year and our Vice President of Operations, (Rachael Pannepecker), was the first Delta Phi Epsilon member inducted into the Drexel Chapter of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. During the summer term the women on campus continued to recruit more fabulous new members. We also had two very successful car washes to raise money for the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, two of our International Philanthropies. Fall term was quite busy for the women of D Phi E. To start off the year, fifteen women moved into a spectacular Panhellenic house on 34th Street. We were blessed with a beautiful, newly furnished chapter room. In October, we participated in fall formal recruitment. We soon realized the hard work involved with this type of recruitment, but our success prevailed with the addition of fifteen outstanding new members, who formed our Alpha Class. Also, the births of new sorority families were created with our first Big / Little Sister Dinner. This was a new and exciting experience for us. We have also kept ourselves busy by helping within the community. During the 2003-2004 school year we participated in two campus clean-ups, gay bingo, Halloween at St. Christophers Hospital and the Thanksgiving Day Parade. In mid-October we invited our families to join us for our housewarming party. The party was filled with our loving families and friends, unbelievable food and a great slideshow to represent what we have worked so hard for. Another accomplishment this term was made by our athletes. They were the sorority Powder-Puff champs! We had an unbelievable undefeated season, and we have taken our place within the Greek community. We have made great strides as a sisterhood and as individuals since January 2003. The bonds we share have become stronger and new ones are made everyday. The possibilities have become limitless as to what we have we can accomplish together. Living out our motto Esse Quam Videri or To be rather than to seem to be we are the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon at Drexel University. We are very proud of our accomplishments and are excited to have officially completed the journey to sisterhood. It has been a period of growth as a group and as individuals. Our members have all learned so much working together and contributing to our campus and community. We have truly formed a home away from home, made lifelong friends and can now call one another sisters. We look forward to our future endeavors as sisters of the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Pearl Program

The Delta Phi Epsilon PEARL (Personal Enrichment Activities for Responsible Living) Program presents opportunities for both new members and sister to contribute to their self-development and to the sorority and surrounding communities. The opportunities members choose will vary depending on their level of experience and their own changing needs. All members participate in PEARL experiences - events, activities and workshops - in the five areas of:Self: Physical, Emotional and Personal Development- College is a time of change for young women, and the sorority is uniquely positioned to assist you in positively meeting new challenges and to offer support and encouragement. By promoting positive self-awareness and providing opportunities for self-discovery, your sorority involvement will help you develop individual strength, establish a personal set of values, and clarify your purpose as a student and as a sister. Self pearl experiences focus on developing physical and mental well being.Self Pearl Examples: Go to an exercise class, go to a play, counseling, ANY CEO event, and a body image workshop.Scholarship: Academic, Career and Lifestyle Skills and PlanningThe college experience is designed to prepare students to function as educated and productive members of their families, their professions, and society. Delta Phi Epsilon recognizes academics as a priority and supports the college mission by providing information and assistance on educational concerns, intellectual development, career preparation, and lifestyle planning.Scholarship Pearl Examples: Make deans list, be part of an honor society, join a club that has to do with your major, visit a new art exhibit at a museum, go to a study abroad opportunities meeting, go to a resume seminar, go to a tutor, and attend a job fair. Sisterhood: Organizational Knowledge and SkillsA strong sorority experience involves mutual friendship, support between members, and activities that increase the bonds of sisterhood. Retreats and sisterhood activities increase communication skills and understanding of sorority values.Sisterhood Pearl Examples: Planned Sisterhood events. Social: Communication, Leadership, and Social DevelopmentSocial pearl experiences provide you with opportunities to enhance your communication and leadership skills as well as the ability to work with and relate to others in a variety of situations. College graduates need the knowledge and expericence of social skills in order to effectively participate in one-on-one situations and small and large group settings.Social Pearl Examples: attending a political rally, attending a workshop about effective communication skills.Service: Community and Social Awareness and InvolvementDelta Phi Epsilon aims to develop women who will contribute to society. Service pearl experiences are designed to expose members to relevant societal issues and provide opportunities to make a positive impact both within and beyond the sorority. Through membership in Delta Phi Epsilon you can become aware of important issues, discover ways to be more involved, and participate in community service and philanthropic projects. Service Pearl Expericences are designed to encourage members to continue their involvement in philanthropic and community events after college. Service Pearl Examples: Donate food, clothes or money to charity, do a campus clean up, volunteer.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation- International Philanthropy The official philanthropy of the sorority since 1958, it is the recipient of funds raised by chapters to support research to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for the 30,000 children and young adults afflicted with the disease. In 1992, scientists described the gene, that when mutated, causes Cystic Fibrosis. However, a cure for Cystic Fibrosis has not been found. In appreciation of the Sorority's fundraising efforts, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation named a research fellowship in honor of Delta Phi Epsilon. This past year Delta Phi Epsilon has created Tate's Totes. Tate's Totes is a unique partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to create tote bags full toys for children who have long-term stays in hospitals. Over one million dollars has been raised to date for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through Delta Phi Epsilon. Each year we put on our all male beauty pageant, Deepher Dude. All the proceeds from tickets sales, t-shirt and DVD sales all go to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For more information, please visit www.cff.orgNational Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) - International Philanthropy The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) has been an additional recipient of our fundraising efforts since 1985. ANAD is a national organization dedicated to alleviating problems of anorexia and other eating disorders. Its methods include education, newsletters, counseling, self-help groups, and providing funds for research. Delta Phi Epsilon is the first international sorority to pledge regular support to an organization concerned with the effects of eating disorders. For more information, please visit www.anad.org.The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation - International PhilanthropyEstablished in 1967 in honor of our fiftieth anniversary, the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation provides grants and loans to members and their children to complete their education or continue with graduate studies. The Foundation also provides funding for educational programs and leadership training for undergraduate members and advisors. The founding sisters decided on the St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Northeast Philadelphia after an overwhelming majority of votes for the hospital. Delta Epsilon chapter part takes in holiday toy drive, and makes greeting cards, picture frames, and small gifts all year around. For more information, please visit http://www.stchristophershospital.com Alex's Lemonade Stand- Local PhilanthropyAlex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is a unique foundation that has evolved from a young cancer patient's front yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement for childhood cancer. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is committed to raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer causes, primarily research into new cures and treatments and encouraging and educating others, especially children, to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer. An all-day, donations only, lemonade stand held annually at Drexel University's commencement ceremonies to raise money and awareness for the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancers.

Deepher Dude

In January 2011 Delta Phi Epsilon hosted the 7th Annual Deepher Dude Pageant, our biggest philanthropy event of the year that takes place on Drexel Universitys campus. It is an all male beauty pageant that raises money to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the primary sponsor of critical research that is making tremendous advances toward a cure and control of cystic fibrosis (CF). Delta Phi Epsilons Deepher Dude is a fantastic event that involves the entire Greek community at Drexel University. Each fraternity or organization has at least one contestant that participates in categories such as, talent, swimsuit, formal wear, and question & answer. In 2011 we raised over $17,434 for the CF foundation and are hoping to top that this upcoming year. It has been almost six years since we lost our sister, Lauren Fitzgerald, but she remains in our thoughts every day. Lauren was not only a DPhiE, she was a Greek, an athlete, a student and a friend. We love and miss you, Lauren!

Fitzy's Run is an annual event held by the Fitzgerald family in memory of one of our past sisters, Lauren Fitzgerald. This event is primarily comprised of a 5K run and a 1K walk. In addition, food and prizes are freely distributed. Each runner is asked to donate money to participate. The funds raised at this event go to the memorial fund and scholarship fund created by the family in Lauren's name and also benefit the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA). Fitzy's Run takes place on Halloween weekend at the Happy Hollow Playground in Wyomissing, Pa each year. This past year's run marks the event's 4th year and it was more successful than ever due to the very large number of sisters that participated.
